The Redmi 5A launch saw the entry of Xiaomi’s new at warrior in India, with a starting price of Rs. 5,999. Xiaomi announced a discount of Rs. 1,000 for the first 5 million Redmi 5A buyers, meaning the starting price goes down to Rs. 4,999 for the early birds. On top of this, buyers of the new “Desh Ka Smartphone” can get another Rs. 1,000 as cashback, courtesy a partnership between the Chinese brand and Reliance Jio. The Redmi 5A buyers will get the cashback as vouchers that can be used to purchase Jio recharges.
The new Rs 5,999 Redmi 5A (2GB RAM variant) from Xiaomi will cost users only Rs 3,999 with a Reliance Jio plan, industry sources said on Thursday.
For the first-time ever, Jio has introduced a special “ALL UNLIMITED” monthly plan of Rs 199 for Redmi 5A users that provides free voice, unlimited data (1GB daily), unlimited SMS and Jio apps for 28 days. With a reduced entry barrier, customers can now avail this device at only Rs 3,999 with all unlimited services at Rs 199 monthly, sources told.
Under the new offer, Redmi 5A users need to continue recharge their accounts with the Rs. 199 pack for 12 months to get the cashback. The pack includes 28GB of 4G data with a 1GB daily limit, unlimited local and STD voice calls, and unlimited SMS with 28 days of validity. Notably, the first recharge should be done between December 5, 2017, and November 30, 2018.
Xiaomi Redmi 5A comes in two variants in the country – one with 2GB RAM and 16GB onboard storage and the other one with 3GB RAM and 16GB storage. Both the versions have a 5-inch HD display, quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 425 processor, and a 3000mAh battery. The Redmi 5A sports a 13-megapixel rear camera sensor with an f/2.2 aperture lens, as well as an LED flash, and a 5-megapixel front camera sensor with f/2.0 aperture lens. It runs MIUI 9 based on Android Nougat.
